Abstract: Marine aquaculture in Van Don, Quang Ninh province, is an important economic sector, playing a role in promoting livelihoods and local marine economic development. However, this activity is facing many challenges such as inadequate marine spatial planning, unsynchronized technical infrastructure, negative impacts from climate change, environmental pollution, and conflicts of interest in water surface use. This study aims to assess the current situation and propose sustainable development solutions for marine aquaculture in Van Don. The research methods include field surveys, analysis of secondary data, and expert interviews. The results show that the Van Don marine farming area has great potential in terms of water surface area, natural conditions, and consumption market. However, the efficiency of marine farming is still low, farming technology is not uniform, there is a lack of chain linkage, and the application of science and technology is still limited. To develop sustainable marine farming, it is necessary to improve marine spatial planning towards multi-objectives, strengthen infrastructure investment, promote technology transfer, and build policies to support production associated with environmental protection. The proposed solutions in the study are an important basis for orienting the development of modern and efficient marine farming, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam's Sustainable Marine Economic Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
